Almond cleansing paste. What are its benefits and how to make one at home?

I’ve got great news! I’ve just discovered an absolutely amazing D.I.Y. cosmetic that I adore for the effects it creates, smell and ease of preparing.

I’m talking about almond paste that serves incredibly well when it comes to face cleansing. Are you curios how to make one? How to use it? And what actually it gifts skin with? Read on!

The very first time I came across almond cleansing paste was a Dr. Hauschka’s book. This is exactly where I found a recipe for this homemade beauty product. Later I realized that such paste by Dr. Hauschka can be also bought. So, even if you aren’t a big fan of preparing cosmetics on you own, read on to learn the properties of almond cleansing paste because, perhaps, you will decide to buy and try it out. 🙂

Almond cleansing paste for skin care

No matter if the one made at home or the one bought in a drugstore – both of them serve their purpose in skin cleansing. Almond paste is a marvelous natural cosmetic that can be used as a good replacement for other face washes. If you asked me to give you the key benefits of this paste, I would say that this is a deeply cleansing, conditioning and soothing almond face scrub. I’m afraid, however, that this description doesn’t give you the full picture of how mighty almond cleansing paste really is. It’s a natural beauty product that answers our skin needs.

What are the effects of using almond cleansing paste?

Almond paste used to wash face with is a real hit! I was stunned how effective it is. Of course, at the beginning I thought that this is just another over-hyped skincare product, but I changed my mind after first use.

Here are all the benefits of almond cleansing paste:

  • absorbs dirt from face
  • unclogs skin pores
  • balances sebum production
  • displays astringent properties
  • prevents oily skin
  • soothes irritations
  • softens skin
  • improves hydration levels in skin
  • deeply nourishes

Actually, almond cleansing paste handles the same task that almond oil does and more, since it also exfoliates dead skin cells and activates microcirculation in skin.

Application of almond cleansing paste

Its exfoliating and cleansing properties one hand are owed to the chemical constituents of almonds, and on the other to the application technique.

Mind you: Almond cleansing paste shouldn’t be used the same way you use a face scrub!

Before you take almond cleansing paste to your hands and automatically start rubbing it into skin, I advise you to read the instruction first. I was surprised when I learnt the way I need to apply it. Well, you have to scoop a portion of the paste and delicately press it to the face. Then you can see a kind of a plaster created that has to be ripped off later. BUT! You shouldn’t grab the edges of the ‘plaster’ but pick its middle and start pulling it off face. This is when almond paste vacuums all the impurities.

You can perform such skin cleansing on your entire face, slowly and thoroughly, and then rinse clean with lukewarm water.

MY RECIPE: How to make your own almond cleansing mask?

And now the heart of the article, which is the recipe for almond cleansing mask. There are many versions of the recipe because the paste can be enriched with many ingredients. However, I worked out a formula that works best for me and I stick to it.

Basic ingredients:

  • almonds (just a small pack will do)
  • a dash of natural almond oil (or other oil of similar thickness)

Extra ingredients:

  • honey that is good at moisturizing
  • essential oils (e.g. lavender)
  • dried lavender flowers
  • shredded coconut
  • ground oat flakes
  • cosmetic clays that display cleansing properties
  • freshly ground coffee
  • herbal distillate (e.g. aloe water, rose water)

Directions for creating almond cleansing paste

  1. Use a blender to ground the almonds. The nuts shouldn’t be too powdery because you should be able to create a pulp out of it – you should be able to make a paste even before mixing it with other runny ingredients. Therefore you must keep grinding.
  2. If you want to use herbs, dried flowers or shredded coconut, then you should do it at the end of grinding. This will help you chop the extra ingredients and combine them with almonds.
  3. Finally, once the paste is ready, you can add an oil, a few drops of essential oil and honey. It’s worth realizing that these ingredients are optional because almonds may create a damp mass already, right after being ground. What I want to say, it may appear that you don’t have to add any runny ingredient at all.

Ready! Enjoy cleansing your face with almond paste 🙂
