Matching manicure for your make-up – I tested a new trend

You know me perfectly so you also know that I love to do my nails. I’m more than happy to test all the new trends that appear in this field. And so, there’s no surprise that I decided to also test the trend that focuses on manicure matching your make-up.

Are you curious as to what I have to say on the matter? If yes, don’t go anywhere and read on. 🙂

The perfect formula for your nails

Every time I reach for the nail polish and get to do my manicure, I wish for the best effect possible. However, does the perfect formula even exist? To be truthful, a lot depends on the stylization, make-up, occasion. There is no versatile* manicure that can work every time.

* Unless, we talk about nude manicure, but let’s be honest it is not a manicure with a wow effect.

Still, new attempts to discover a way (more like a formula) for the manicure to always be versatile are made. That is where the new manicure trend came from.

Manicure matching your make-up

Once upon a time, it was believed that successful stylization is such where your shoes match your handbag. Today, we stray from color matching in the outfit, but we strive to match unusual elements such as manicure and make-up.

Is it even possible to create a manicure that would match the make-up? In theory, yes. You just have to determine what is going to be the element that connects the both of them – color or pattern. Then you just have to create the make-up look and manicure that will have said common element and… the match is ready!

Sounds simple enough but in reality, it’s not that easy to match manicure and make-up. It’s because it’s about more than just color.

How to match manicure with make-up?

It is not relevant where you start. However, usually, manicure comes first so, in fact, we should be talking about make-up matching the manicure and not the other way round.

Nonetheless, the most important is to know how to match one with the other. Nails painted one color that appears also in the make-up is not sufficient. Something special is needed so that the connection knock us out.

In my opinion, the following formula is key.

  1. Use of the same color – but it needs to be expressive and contrasting, for example, glitter fuchsia on the tips of natural nail plate + glitter eyeliner in the same shade on the neutral color eyelid.
  2. Use of the same color mix – here as well the key is the expressiveness of the combination, for example, neon yellow and black eyeliner on the eyelids + nails with geometrical black and yellow pattern.
  3. Use of the same pattern – it can be geometrical or flower pattern or use of some bling, like cubic zirconia in the eye corner and subtle pink make-up + light pink nail polish with zirconia.

Does it actually work?

It’s time to sum it all up, which means the most important question needs to be answered. The question of whether it is worth the fuss. After all, not every trend deserves to be implemented in the beauty routine so we should consider the point of wearing matching make-up and manicure on a daily basis.

I have one observation. It looks beautiful and stands out just great but I don’t recommend it as a go-to everyday trend. Why?

Most of all, on a daily basis the make-up we wear is made with casual colors so it will be difficult to find matching manicure. Nude on the nails and no make-up look are rather not a very effective duo. For this reason, this trend will work better for special occasions. Alternatively, it can be used by people who love expressive, colorful and polished make-up on an everyday basis.

Another matter is that matching manicure and make-up would require wearing the same make-up every day or to re-do the manicure every single day. Sadly, it is what it is. The well-made manicure lasts around 7 days and when we talk hybrid manicure, it’ll be even a few weeks. If you use certain patterns and will want it to match the make-up, you will have to wear the exact same make-up every day. The alternative is that you can each day match your manicure to the make-up you intend to wear, but… who has time for that?
