The title is a teaser of my post! The most popular anti-dandruff remedies. Is fighting it a tricky task? If you don’t know the most effective methods, it is. But it won’t be hard once I reveal my tested ways of doing away with dandruff. Hopefully, they will let you get rid of the problem once and for all.

Sit back and read on!

What causes dandruff?

If you’ve spotted tiny, light-colored (white or yellow) flakes between hairs and on the shoulders… If your scalp itches and you just can’t stop scratching… If your hair is more greasy than usual…You are surely a dandruff sufferer.

This condition is caused by a fungus occuring only on scalp – Malassezia globosa. But it doesn’t mean that this yeast-like, unwanted guest is the only wrongdoer.

The occurrence of dandruff can be triggered by:

  • overuse of hair styling products.
  • too little or too much hair washing.
  • not rinsing hair thoroughly.
  • dry air indoors (at home, office, etc.).
  • deficit of minerals, especially zinc.
  • various types of diseases and weaker immune system.
  • extremely dry scalp.
  • too much stress and hormonal imbalance.

Effective anti-dandruff action

You spotted dandruff. What to do now?

The first thing you must do is determine the cause of dandruff. If it’s the wrong products, replace them. If it’s the dry air, put a humidifier in the room.

Another key thing is connected with anti-dandruff products i.e. the right shampoo. You need to pay attention to the ingredients and pick effective products that don’t cause scalp irritation. At the same time, do your best to cut down on hairstyling products and all cosmetics that are likely to build up on hair and scalp, disturbing their functioning.

This should help, however, this kind of anti-dandruff treatment is pretty lengthy. Luckily, there are tried and true remedies that will make the therapy give rapid results!

My favorite home remedies for dandruff

Castor oil treatment

Castor oil turns out to be the first and the most effective tool. This inconspicuous oil can be bought at every drugstore and has strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect. I love to use it because it’s both budget and lasts long. All you need to do is regularly rub the oil into scalp before a hair wash, leave it in for at least 30 minutes and then shampoo the hair. You will spot the effects after the very first week.

Lemon juice scalp treatment

Fresh lemon juice has a similar effect. You simply rub it into spots where dandruff occurred. How to get round to it? Take a slice of lemon and rub it into the skin for at least 5 minutes. Next, use a gentle shampoo. That’s it!

Garlic scalp treatment (for the brave ones :-))

My grandma revealed this home trick to me. It’s great but I’m aware that some of you wince just thinking about it. You must be a fan of garlic and not be afraid of smelling like a vampire-repellent. Garlic is famous for its health benefits and it cures dandruff as well. Smash two garlic cloves, pour a glass of warm water over them and rub the mixture into scalp. After 5 minutes, rinse and shampoo as usual.

Nettle hair rinse

Hair loves nettle! I’m sure most people don’t know that this popular herb aids in eliminating bothersome dandruff. Give it a try: pour boiling water over dried nettle. After brewing, draining and cooling down the mixture, you get a natural hair rinse you can use after every wash.

Let me know after testing any of the tricks. If you’ve got other favorite anti-dandruff remedies, share them please!
